Lingua

Convert::Cyrillic
This package implements routine for converting from one cyrillic charset to another. It is intended to be used from cgi's which need built-in support for translations. For example, you may wish to use it in form processor to translate from user encoding to one used by your site. Where $Src and $Dst are one of:

KOI8 - for KOI8-R
DOS - for DOS, alternative, CP-866
ISO - for ISO-8859-5
WIN - for WIN-1251
VOL - for Volapuk (transliteration)
MAC - for Macintosh

Buffer may contain line breaks, which are preserved.

Lingua::EN::Infinitive
Determine the infinitive form of a conjugated word. Also, determine the suffix used to identify which rule to apply to transform the conjugated word into the infinitive form.

Lingua::EN::Inflect
The exportable subroutines of Lingua::EN::Inflect provide plural inflections and %22a%22/%22an%22 selection for English words. Plural forms of all nouns, most verbs, and some adjectives are provided. Where appropriate, %22classical%22 variants (for example: %22brother%22 -> %22brethren%22, %22dogma%22 -> %22dogmata%22, etc.) are also provided. Pronunciation-based %22a%22/%22an%22 selection is provided for all English words, and most initialisms.

Lingua::En::Nameparse
This module takes as input a person or persons name in free format text such as,

Mr AB & M/s CD MacNay-Smith
MR J.L. D'ANGELO
Estate Of The Late Lieutenant Colonel AB Van Der Heiden

and attempts to parse it. If successful, the name is broken down into components and useful functions can be performed like :

converting upper or lower case values to name case (Mr AB MacNay )
creating a personalised greeting or salutation (Dear Mr MacNay )
extracting the names individual components (Mr,AB,MacNay )
determining the type of format the name is in (Mr_A_Smith )

If the name cannot be parsed you have the option of cleaning the name of bad characters, or extracting any portion that was parsed and the portion that failed.

Lingua::EN::Nums2Words
This code has the potential for generating US English verbage representative of every real value from negative infinity to positive infinity if the module's private variables @Classifications and @Categories are filled appropriately. This module generates verbage based on the thousands system. This module is intended to automate task of converting logical Hebrew to visual Hebrew.

Lingua::LinkParser
This is a Perl interface to the Sleator/Temperey Link Grammar Parser, and provides an OO interface to analysis of English sentence structures.

Lingua::Wordnet
Wordnet is a lexical reference system inspired by current psycholinguitics theories of human lexical memory. This module allows access to the Wordnet lexicon from Perl applications, as well as manipulation and extension of the lexicon. Lingua::Wordnet::Analysis provides numerous high-level extensions to the system.

Squeeze.pm
Squeeze text (English) to most compact format possibly so that it is barely readable. You shold convert all text to lowercase for maximum compression, because optimisations have been designed mostly for unpapitalised letters. You can use this module eg to preprocess text before it is sent to electronic media that has maximum text size limit. For example Pagers have some arbitrary text size limit, say 200 characters, which you want to fill as much as possible. Alternatively you may have GSM Cellular phone wich is capable of receiving Short Messages (SMS), whose text limit is 160 characters.
